Link between Talc and Ovarian Cancer Increases Lawsuits against Janssen Pharmaceuticals

At present, thousands of women have filed lawsuits across the country against Johnson & Johnson alleging that the use of talcum powder leads to ovarian cancer. Women throughout the United States may have developed ovarian cancer from side effects of talcum powder. Several investigations on talc increase the medical evidence which suggest Women should not use talcum powder as an intimate hygiene powder because of its link to ovarian cancer. The Manufacturers are probably responsible for giving women ovarian cancer through its high-selling talcum powder products. The lawsuits allege that the manufacturers failed to warn users of the increased risk of ovarian cancer caused by using talc-based products for personal hygiene use.

Talcum powder is an astringent powder used for preventing diaper rash, as a deodorant, and for other cosmetic uses. It may be composed of talc. From many years women dust talcum powder on undergarments and sanitary pads to keep the genital area cool and comfortable and discourage the development of vaginal odor. Talc effectively absorbs moisture and reduces friction. In recent years, talcum powder has come under fire as a possible cause of ovarian cancer.

The manufacturers (Janssen Pharmaceuticals) of two powders, Johnson baby talc and shower to shower- a product also made by Johnson & Johnson supposedly, specifically for use in genital area are in trouble because of the increasing number of product liability lawsuits filed against them. The courts of New Jersey where J&J is headquartered are dealing with at least 70 lawsuits against J&J from those claiming that talcum powders are link with ovarian cancer. The product may migrate through the vagina and into the fallopian tubes, uterus and ovaries, where women may face an increased risk of ovarian cancer from talcum powder. The court also alleging that insufficient warnings were provided about the severe risk associated with the talc and the manufacturer withheld information about the link between talc and ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cancer Lawsuits associated with Talcum powder are just the most recent in a long list of product liability lawsuits brought against Johnson & Johnson. Since 2013, Johnson & Johnson has lost more than $5 billion for legal settlements over its drugs and medical devices. According to several lawsuits, Johnson & Johnson knew of the health risks associated with powders containing talc and failed to warn consumers of the danger. The company risks all its reputation as well as put the whole J&J brand in forum to protect this one business. In addition more lawsuits are yet to file against the manufacturers of these products in future.
