According to the lawsuit, the woman had been diagnosed with an extensive thrombosis (blood clot that developed in a vein deep in the body).She was implanted with a Cook Celect IVC filter at the Hoag Memorial Presbyterian Hospital in Newport Beach, California, on January 11, 2008. The IVC Filter made by Cook Celect injured her internal organs and she suffered serious injuries. She accuses the manufacturer of negligence for selling a defective medical device, failing to warn about side effects, and concealing safety risks. The lawsuit was filed on August 22, 2016.
According to the lawsuit she still had the Cook Celect IVC filter lodged in her body. On October 30, 2015 she went to Stanford University Medical Center for a checkup and came to know that two limbs and one arm from the device had broken off and lodged in the right side of her heart. The doctors were not able to remove the lodged parts of filter from her body. Doctors suggest that she requires ongoing monitoring “As long as the filter remains embedded in her vena cava, Plaintiff is at risk for future thrombosis, filter fractures, migrations, perforations, and tilting. She faces numerous health risks, including the risk of death and will continue to suffer from significant medical expenses, pain and suffering. She seeks compensatory and punitive damages in excess of $75,000.
